Salary: €30,740.00 Per Annum
Contract Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract duration: Specialized Purpose, Subject to probationary period and Garda Vetting

Summary:
Reach Deaf Services is seeking a General Maintenance person to join Property and Facilities team under a specialized purpose contract to cover an ongoing team absence. The role will involve unsupervised routine maintenance and minor repair work throughout the buildings on Reach Deaf Services grounds.
This role will assist with tasks as part of the maintenance department and will ensure that records are maintained of works undertaken.
The Successful applicant will also demonstrate a basic knowledge of workshop health and safety procedures, assist other colleagues as required and assist higher grade team members on new projects and repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Below are the key areas of responsibility; (This list is not exhaustive)

Communication / Development

  • To co-ordinate with Facilities Coordinator / Property & Facilities Manager to achieve robust communication processes and to engage all necessary support as required.
  • Working to help the organisation achieve the aims and objectives of the strategic plan in line with our values and mission. Attention to your own Health & Safety in the workplace.

Primary Responsibilities

  • To deliver a high quality, responsive and maintenance service within Reach Deaf Services properties, follow maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance
  • Ensuring that basic facilities, such as water and heating, are well-maintained
  • Ensuring that facilities meet government & HIQA regulations and environmental, health and security standards
  • To take care of the premises and contents and to prevent as far as possible, any damage to the structure, furniture, fittings and equipment.
  • Carrying out minor repairs and paint works to property, fixtures, fittings and equipment, which are not beyond the scope of an unskilled handyman.
  • To work indoor or outdoor as required maintaining the grounds in a neat and tidy manner. To carry out planting, care, collecting trash and maintenance of the carpark, grounds and pathways and to report any maintenance work to be carried out.
  • Cutting grass using ride on machinery, pedestrian mowers and trimmers. Sweeping of the pathway after cutting.
  • To activate and de-activate the alarm system as required and to respond to callouts as required.
  • Assist with the moving of furniture and movement of stationery and deliveries
  • To keep in safe custody the keys of all rooms in the building and to ensure that no unauthorised person has any access to any part of the building
  • To keep the grounds generally in good order and to prevent trespass thereon.
  • Opening and closing, unlocking and locking of gates and buildings
  • You may be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with fire / intruder alarm problems, make emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor who may be working on the site, in school holidays or weekends.
  • Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations
  • Report to a Facilities Coordinator for issues.
  • Attending team / supervision meetings as required
  • Vigilance of health & safety hazards and timely reporting of same to Facilities Coordinator.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience and training in delivering high quality maintenance services
  • Proven experience in general maintenance role or other similar position
  • Able to work under own initiative, under pressure within structured timescales. Have high quality approach to work
  • Ability to use small power tools and landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Initiative and the ability to work without supervision, but as part of a team.
  • Good communicator able to listen to client needs and summaries technical building issues in simple easily understandable terms
  • A can do, proactive, energetic attitude towards your work and people is a must
  • Ability to priorities is also essential
  • An understanding of the main Health & Safety Regulations
  • Have good DIY skills and able to work at heights
  • Full driving license required
