Job Title:  Night Porter
Reporting to: Residence Manager
Salary: €12-€13 per hour dependant on experience and Hours
Contract duration: Permanent, subject to probationary period and garda vetting
Contract Hours: full-time & Part-Time available -Shift time 9pm to 6am

Please note that this is a lone working role.

Summary:
Reach Deaf Services operates the student accommodation on the Deaf Village Ireland Campus at Cabra, Dublin 7. We have three buildings that occupy forty-five residents during the academic year and three months of summer for the commercial tourist and language school. The Accommodation team consists of Property and Facilities Manager, Residence Manager, Financial Department and Maintenance team.

Night Porters are primarily responsible to help create and promote a safe and secure residence environment that is supportive to a diverse community of residence students. Night Porters are expected to set a positive example by ensuring their conduct is in keeping with residence policies and that they act in a manner appropriate for a role model.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Below are the key areas of responsibility; (This list is not exhaustive)

  • Providing a knowledgeable and friendly welcome to all students and guests whether in person or over the phone.
  • Signs guests in and out within the guidelines expressed in the Residence Handbook and the Guest Policy; ensures that all relevant information is collected.
  • To have a full understanding of the fire procedures to ensure safety of all students and guests at all times.
  • Responsible for overall health & safety at night including fire walks, security checks, and any other relevant health & safety duties.
  • Ensuring that the building entrances/exits are secure out of hours to prevent unauthorised access.
  • Assisting with the general upkeep of the building carrying out some general housekeeping tasks.
  • Raising maintenance requests for students and identifying general building maintenance.
  • Ability to carry out the patrols, monitoring CCTV, access control etc.
  • Reporting incidents and accidents to your Line Manager.
  • Responding to and logging enquiries, working with your Residence Manager where needed.
  • Handling and logging complaints professionally and compassionately, escalating them to the Residence Manager for resolution.
  • Understanding and following our health and safety policy, operational procedures, risk assessments and method statements.

Requirements:

  • A professional phone, email and personal communications manner with a passion for excellent service
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and experienced with learning new systems
  • The ability to work on their own initiative, as well as being capable of working as part of a team.
  • A warm, friendly and approachable personality when dealing with fellow staff and guests.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours during busy periods such as check in and check out
  • QQI (Formerly FETAC) Level 3 in Irish Sign Language or commitment to achieve within 12 months and QQI Level 4 within two years – this course will be funded by the organisation
