Job Title: Staff Nurse – Fixed Term
Location: St Mary’s and St Joseph’s Boarding Campus, Cabra
Salary: €24.45 per hour
Contract duration:  Fixed Term – 6 Months, 10 to 12 hours per

Summary:
To provide efficient and effective health support to individuals and to guide and support all support staff to upskill in clinical awareness and health promotion

Hours:
10 to 12 hours per week for the weeks of the year during which the Boarding Campus is open. The hours will be worked across mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, subject to service requirements.

As noted above, when required, the post holder will also work and provide cover across the service such as to Reach Deaf Services Supported Living Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following list should not be considered exhaustive but serves as an illustration of the range of duties and responsibilities that this role involves:

  • Ensure implementation of health care and person-centred planning approach for each individual availing of the services of Reach Deaf Supported Living Service
  • Maintain the boarder support folder.
  • Maintain and input to the Nulife medication system and carry out assigned audits
  • Collaborate with individuals and the multi-disciplinary teams to facilitate appropriate individualised health care
  • Work closely with Care Managers/ Team Leaders and Support Staff to meet the needs of each individual
  • Adhere to evidence-based practice, using a person-centred care planning approach to nursing care
  • Train and support and assess staff to administer medications to individuals as required.
  • Train individuals to self-administer medications
  • Assess individuals’ ability to self-administer medications
  • Practice nursing according to the professional code of An Bord Altranais and the policies and procedures of the Reach Deaf Services.
  • Participate as a team member of the multi-disciplinary support team in aspects of the delivery of health care
  • Attend training courses where required, to enhance the service being provided to individuals.
  • Be aware of the confidential nature of the work and in particular, the right of individuals to confidentiality
  • Carry out clinical tasks assigned by the Care Manager
  • Tasks will include administration of and oversight of controlled medications
  • Dressing wounds where required
  • Supporting individuals to manage conditions: diabetes, catheter care, etc.
  • Report medication errors to the Care Manager
  • Support individuals to manage aspects of their healthcare in-line with their wishes
  • Support individuals to attend health care appointments as required.
  • Support staff with individual’s health care issues as required in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE , HIQA standards and other statutory standards
  • To provide educational and advisory service for Staff, service users and families, offering information on numerous aspects of healthcare.
  • To demonstrate excellent communication and listening skills, while demonstrating sensitivity towards the specifics of each unique situation.
  • Expected to provide emergency care – where service user have had accidents or suffered complications.
  • Record keeping in-line with service or statutory requirements.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Liaise with the Community Nurse manager as required

Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
Qualifications
Essential:

  • Nursing Qualification
  • Registration with An Bord Altranais
  • Continuous Professional Development
  • FETAC Level 3 – Sign Language
  • Full driving license

Desirable

  • Nursing Qualification
  • Registration with An Bord Altranais
  • Continuous Professional Development
  • FETAC Level 4 – Sign Language

Experience
Essential:

  • Minimum five years post graduate nursing experience
  • Wide range of clinical nursing experience

Professional Knowledge
Essential:

  • Knowledge of HIQA National Standards for Residential Services for Children and Adults with Disabilities, and others as applicable
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of Adults with Deaf and Deafblind Disabilities
