CIDP Statement re Chaplaincy

03.10.18

We in CIDP, like everyone in Deaf Village Ireland, are very sorry to see Fr Gerard move to the parish of Holy Rosary, Greystones. However we wish him every happiness in this new chapter of his pastoral life, and we are very grateful for the wholehearted service he delivered to the wider Deaf community as well as to the people living in St Joseph’s House and school community.
It was very evident from Fr Gerard’s recent final Mass as Chaplain here how good a relationship he has had with the Deaf community and how much the community supported him. But, times move on and we are in communication with Archbishop Diarmuid Martin in regard to a suitable successor to Fr Gerard to continue to provide all the necessary pastoral supports for the Deaf community. In the meantime, Fr Gerard has asked Annie to gather a list of available Priests to offer Mass and equally we in CIDP will be happy to provide interpreting services to any local priest who may be available so that people, if they wish, can attend the local Mass in Cabra.
Please be assured that we and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin are very conscious of the need for ongoing support for the Deaf community and as soon as we have any update we will let you know.
